متن کاملEisenstein Series, Crystals and Ice
Automorphic forms are generalizations of periodic functions; they are functions on a group that are invariant under a discrete subgroup. A natural way to arrange this invariance is by averaging. Eisenstein series are an important class of functions obtained in this way. It is possible to give explicit formulas for their Fourier coefficients. Such formulas can provide clues to deep connections w...
متن کاملThe Growth and Deformation of Ice Crystals 397 the Growth and Deformation of Ice Crystals
X-ray diffraction photographs were taken of ice dendrites grown from water and from the vapour. In both cases [II20] was found to be the growth direction. A method of growing cylindrical single crystals of any desired orientation has been devised. Some of these crystals were extended to several times their original length. Slip took place exclusively on the basal plane. Experiments designed to ...
متن کاملDendritic Growth Velocity of Ice Crystals
The dendritic growth velocity of ice crystals is measured at undercooking levels between 5 -8.5 K using a unique apparatus. The result shows that the measured velocities are smaller than the theoretical prtiiction based on the thermal diffusion theory with the scaling constant, o = 0.025, which has been shown to agree with the experimental results at lower undercooking levels between 0.4 2.5 K....
متن کاملLight scattering by complex ice-analogue crystals
Angle-dependent light scattering measurements on single ice analogues crystals are described. Phase functions and degree of linear polarization are measured for electrodynamically levitated crystals. A procedure for randomizing particle orientation during levitation is demonstrated. The dependence of scattering on the shape, complexity and surface roughness of the crystals is examined. The phas...
